The 7 Habits Instructor Self-Assessment
Course Design & Instructor Self-Assessment Rubric
This course is designed to facilitate transformational learning and application. Students are guided to
examine their paradigms and behaviors, and form more effective ways of thinking and living by using
The 7 Habits.
This requires specific strategies to facilitate student transformation:
- Modeling and Clear End in Mind: Instructors genuinely apply the 7 Habits in their own lives—personally and professionally—especially in the classroom. And instructors have a “compelling why” (end in mind) for teaching the course.
- Storytelling Real-Life: Instructors show vulnerability by sharing their real-life stories (of struggles and successes) to illustrate the impact and relevance of the 7 Habits and open the way for students to share their own stories, making connections to the habits. And instructors sincerely listen to understand students’ stories and perspectives to create trust and belonging.
- Facilitating Skills and Strategies: Instructors use facilitating skills/strategies rather than traditional teaching methods. And instructors engage and empower students by using higher-order, reflective thinking strategies.
- Content Knowledge: Instructors develop mastery of the 7 Habits content both in terms of knowledge, application, and accurate facilitation. They collaborate with others to improve their learning and application, and grow their ability to respond to difficult/challenging questions from students.
